For
Sarah
Memories
on your Wedding Day
By your padre, August
11, 2001
As
I'm here beside you, waiting
for
wedding vows, about to start,
I
find a flood of memories
all
stirred up within my heart.
I
loved you from the moment
when
first I saw, your deep dark eyes,
that
viewed the world around you
With
quiet wonder and surprise.
We
sought to find the perfect name
To
complement your every trait
And
when we couldn't quite agree, we
compromised
and gave you eight.
Though
I called you Sarah no-nose
Still,
I loved your cherub face,
Framed
in puppy tails and bows,
Made
of frilly purple lace.
I
called you, my Petunia
Such
a moody little flower,
Any
little word, might cause a change
Sometimes
giddy, and sometimes dour.
Sometimes
you were naughty
But
there was nothing I could do
'Cause
you'd sing "Jesus Loves Me"
When
I tried to punish you.
And
it always made me giggle
And
I always said, "okay"
Then
from my arms you'd wiggle
And
toddle off again to play
As
your father, I have erred,
Yet
I have tried to help and guide,
And
whenever you've had problems
I've
always tried to take your side.
And
that is where I am today
I
am prepared, to do my part,
And
give your hand in marriage
To
this young man, who's won your heart.
I
fear our lives will never be the same.
You've
made laugh and you've made me cry,
And
though I'm glad you're getting married
It's
awfully hard to say, "Good-bye."
So
James, although it makes me sad,
I
herewith, give her for your wife,
A
gift I pray you'll treasure
And
remain with all your life.
So,
as you start your life anew
On
this, your special day, I pray
That
Christ will bless your marriage
And
faith and love, will rule each day.
