DREAM WORLD

A World with a Simpler Scheme
By Bob Blackman
Copyright September 2008

I write this poem by the light of day

About the life that I live by night

When skulking shadows sinister gray

Come down to coerce away the light.

Closing weary eyes, I travel on

Off to somewhere past or yet to come

Until the emergence of the dawn

Bids me back again and I succumb

This other abode to which I go

{At least I think that I am the one

It resembles me but I don’t know

Sometimes I’m more like my dad or son}

This other abode, a nether world

Though dreadfully similar in kind

Somehow distorted, twisted, and twirled

Sometimes refined, and sometimes maligned

Perhaps, I am writing in a dream

About a life that is so complex

I need a place with a simple scheme

To escape what actual life rejects
