ANNIE’S POEM

The daughter I found later in the day

She who’s life was never mine to guide

Was never mine to cherish on the way.

She who’s life was never mine to guide

Turned out as lovely as a spring bouquet

And managed well without me, I’ll confide.

Turned out as pretty as a spring bouquet

With smile that showed the love she had inside,

And joy more rich than Rembrant could portray.

With smile that showed the love she had inside,

For hubby, child and all she met along the way.

Including me, and filled my life with joyful pride.

For hubby, child and all she met along the way,

And Jesus Christ with whom her heart allied

She gave sweet blessings out of love, not for display.

And Jesus Christ with whom her heart allied

In answer to the prayer that I would often pray

Gave me a daughter, with all the word implied.

In answer to the prayer that I would often pray

With goodness, charity and eagerness of stride,

She danced into my life, a sweet ballet

With goodness, charity and eagerness of stride,

With joy enough to fill a cabaret

She rounded out my life every side.

With joy enough to fill a cabaret

My daughter she forever will abide,

From now, until I sleep beneath the ley.

My daughter she forever will abide,

The daughter I found later in the day.

For her, I’ll ever praise my Lord and guide.
